As the Business Performance Analyst within the Australia Retail Strategic Performance Management team you will support the important work underway to optimise the Australia Retail Business’ commercial performance and execution across the Classic and Plus businesses. This role will work collaboratively with key stakeholders to support the development of financial models, forecasts and reporting that accurately represent a range business scenarios. Your hands on financial modelling experience will develop data driven insights on business performance as well as revenue and cost outcomes.
Role Accountabilities:
Your key accountabilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Build detailed and fit-for-purpose driver-based financial models to enable the analysis of future financial impacts of changing variables (under direction from line manager). These models can be enduring and will become a key component of the Performance Management service proposition to govern executive decision-making and deliver the required sustainable commercial impact.
  • Apply your in depth experience of financial analysis skills and techniques to provide insights, analyse information and deliver the required financial outputs whilst ensuring timelines are met
  • Identify opportunities for improvements to current forecasting and modelling processes
  • Address and solve complex business issues using data and business acumen
  • Engaging with Strategic Delivery, Retail, Finance, T&C and others to aid with analysis that supports Retail’s financial, people and customer related strategic planning
  • Maintain excellent relationships with internal and external stakeholders; influencing and guiding others while solving problems with unique insights
  • Display a positive attitude, operate collaboratively and actively support others

What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in the role, you will ideally bring the following:

  • 5 -8 years’ experience in the design and implementation of financial models. Techniques include spreadsheet models, applications for investment analysis, company valuation, forecasting and modelling techniques
  • Advanced/expert level MS Excel modelling skills and knowledge with the ability to be able to (a) manipulate in Excel large data lists (e.g. if, index, match, lookup etc. functionality); (b) prepare integrated financial statements (income statement, balance sheet) from a driver based approach; (c) set up the financial model to run scenarios based on differing assumptions; (d) ability to synthesise key financial information into graphs and tables; (d) have an view to ensuring the financial model that minimises complexity and provides confidence in accuracy (minimises risk of errors); and (e) understand / interpret key performance indicators arising from the financial model to support decision making
  • Strong analytical, numerical, research and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to extract and analyse information efficiently; as well as to develop innovative solutions to solve problems related to data and models.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy and work under pressure to achieve deadlines
  • Ensuring deliverables meet stakeholders’ expectation and with the ability to work in a cross functional environment.
  • The ability to contextualise insights for decision makers and partners. It involves crafting persuasive, factual, and focused stories that combine data, visuals and narrative to communicate insights (typically in Microsoft PowerPoint and / or Microsoft Word)
  • Experience working in modelling financial services businesses (e.g. banks) would be preferred but not essential
